What an optics ready plate is

An optics ready plate — also called an adapter plate or optics plate — sits between your pistol slide and your red dot. If your pistol has a factory optics cut, the slide is machined with a specific recess that accepts a plate. The plate fills that recess on one side and provides the mounting footprint for your chosen red dot on the other. The cut on the gun and the footprint of the optic are rarely the same geometry, so the plate bridges the difference.

Why the plate matters

The plate determines whether your optic sits flat, whether the screws align, and whether the assembly stays rigid under recoil. A poorly fitting plate can introduce movement or tilt that a tight screw torque will not fix. Plates are made for specific gun-and-footprint combinations — a plate for a Trijicon RMR will not accept a Holosun footprint, and a plate cut for a Glock MOS will not fit a CZ P-10. Both dimensions need to match.

Rear sight integration

Some plates include a machined rear sight as part of the design. This keeps a usable iron sight available at the same height as the red dot, so you can co-witness or use the iron sight as a backup without adding height to the assembly. Plates with integrated rear sights are listed in each product description.

Material and finish

Most plates are CNC-machined from steel or aluminium. Steel is heavier but more resistant to deformation under sustained use; aluminium reduces weight and is sufficient for standard training volumes. The material is always specified in the product description.
